New Imperialism still effects us today. Trade still goes on between countries and the Suez Canal is still used. Better trade routes are being used and raw materials and natural resources are still imported and exported for the good of our country (a powerful country) to use and profit of other countries. We learned from all of the conquering that went on then and now we "westernize" other civilizations more civil like. We don't go to war to take over land. Instead we westernize other places by giving them aide and selling them the things we use so they think we are a good nation. And, when we do go to war, we don't go to take over a culture, we go to help out a culture and for them to keep their traditions. The muslim countries still hate us for our type of life because it is still strong in some of these countries like the Middle East and their hate for a western country is still strong. We still do our share of New Imperialism, which I think is just called "wesernizing" now, but we go about it alot differently. Selling and giving American-made things like Coke and McDonalds, are ways to get into other countries to try to change them into better ways of life.

You really "wowed" me here, Charlene. You have made some interesting and profound observations that show your ability to make connections between the past events you've learned about and the present.
