Negative Effects: The drug opium was used as a way of making money for the British. In other areas like the Congo, the overseers there who were overseeing the copper, rubber, and Ivory mining treated the workers like slaves (beating them, mutilating them), which caused the population to drop. When the French conquered Algeria in North Africa, it costs thousands and thousnds of French lives and killed many more Algerians. Guerilla fighting broke out when the British tried to take over the Boers land. The British also came up with a complete segration system that stayed enforced until 1993. The Africans resisted imperialism and battled the French for many years. The Germans also fought against the resistance in Africa. The Ottoman Empire had economic problems and corruption. Internal revolts spread throughout and the Europeans thought they could take advantage of this. There was a genocide of the Armenians. The Europeans were spreading diseases to the new "worlds." The countries doing the conquering had trouble deciding the right way to do things and they were probably spreading themsleves too thin back hom - leaving a chance to have problems back home. They also lost alot of people during the conflicts, spent alot of money hurting their own economies as well. Another negative effect was the conquered lands losing part of their history and heritage while doing what the conquerers say.
